Online surveys |
What is an
online survey?
Online surveys are a web-based
version of traditional face-to-face or telephonic surveying. Whereas,
traditionally, they have been carried out via pen and paper,
or over the phone, you now have the power to generate online
surveys on your own! Online surveys are more affordable (or
FREE!) and can generate valuable customer feedback in a much
shorter time frame.
When should an online survey be used?
An online survey is most appropriate for customer or
employee insight when:
- You want
total control over your own surveys - create your own
questions, when and how you want!
- Time is of
the essence - SurveyBasket's user-friendly surveys are
super quick to create and implement.
- You have a
limited budget - online research is low-cost when
compared to traditional methods.
- Your
respondents are dispersed (not in one place/city).
- Your
respondents are busy (time constraints) - online surveys
allow them to complete your survey when they have a
moment.
- There are
sensitive
topics (e.g. sex, religion) that you need to test.
-
Respondents will want to remain anonymous (e.g. at the
office).
- You need
to gain insight into high-involvement
products/services (products that require lengthy thought
process).

Bulletin boards |
What is a bulletin
board?
A bulletin board is just like a real
bulletin board, except it's online! Bulletin boards allow people to communicate with others
outside of standard time constraints (i.e. whenever they
want!). People post comments, which can be
replied to by others over the time you specify. Unlike a
focus group, where everyone
has to be there as the conversation takes place, this allows
people to converse without being there at the same time.
Participants are recruited in the
same way as for focus groups, though often this can be done
via email and the web. From 15 - 25 participants take part
in one discussion session. They are invited to log in to the
bulletin board, for example, two to three times a day over a three to four
day period. The moderator posts new topics for discussion each day. As participants take part
in the discussion, they are able to respond to the moderator
and to each other, generating conversations that build off
each other in what are called threads.
When should a bulletin board be used?
Not all situations call for the use of bulletin boards. For
example, getting the opinions of consumers with respect to
the taste of a new sandwich might not be useful, however, there are
situations where a bulletin board is going to get you the
accurate and rich data. These are some common
uses of bulletin boards:
- Dispersed
participants (not in one place/city).
- Busy
respondents (time constraints).
- Sensitive
topics (e.g. sex, religion).
- Involved
products/services (products that require lengthy thought
process).
